Mark B. Hill is a Chartered Accountant. On his road to obtaining his designation, Mark received a Diploma in Accounting and Strategic Measurement with great distinction from Grant MacEwan College, a Management Degree with distinction from the University of Lethbridge, and a Masters of Professional Accounting from the University of Saskatchewan.
Mark has a unique portfolio of employment experiences which allows him to provide great service as well as great training to his clients. Over the past several years, Mark has had employment related experiences in the following areas: Public Practice, Industry, and University Instructor.
Mark articled with a large national accounting firm and has also had experience working with local accounting firms. During each of these opportunities, Mark spent the vast majority of his time working with small to medium businesses.
Mark was the Chief Financial Officer of a local Oilfield Company. During his time with the company, he was instrumental in the company’s reorganization in order to facilitate a tax deferring and minimizing stock option plan as well as the company’s international expansion.
Mark has been teaching at MacEwan University since January 2012 and has been contracted to teach the following courses:
– Financial Procedures in the Law Office
– Canadian Taxation of Individuals and Corporations
Combining his teaching and work experiences, Mark is in a great position to offer great well rounded service including one of his key services: Trust Audits and Other Trust Related Services.
Mark volunteers both in the community and at the church which he attends. In the past, Mark has also served as the Treasurer of Today’s Innovative Music of Edmonton.
Despite Mark’s scholastic and occupational accomplishments, Mark’s greatest treasure is his family: His wife Marie and his three children Josh, Ben, and Nora.
Prior to becoming a Chartered Accountant, Jeff Wong was enrolled in the University transfer program at Grant MacEwan College. It was during this time that his passion for accounting sparked and he has never looked back since. After completing two years at Grant MacEwan, he continued his journey at the University of Lethbridge where he obtained his Management Degree with a double major in Accounting and Finance.
Jeff pursued his CA designation right after University and was successful in all of his modules on his first attempt. He successfully wrote the Uniform Evaluation in 2012 and completed his requirements as a CA shortly after.
Jeff brings with him several years of public practice and knowledge in accounting, tax and finance. He worked at a national accounting firm and a local firm while articling to become a CA. His expertise in these areas puts him in a great position to assist owner managed businesses and individuals to achieve their long term financial goals.
Jeff is fluent in both English and Cantonese.
Jeff also serves as Treasurer on his condo board where he overseas their financial position and prepares budgets.
During his spare time, Jeff enjoys travelling to various parts of Asia and visiting his relatives. In the winter, he enjoys snowboarding in the mountains.
Macgyver R. Ussher is a Chartered Accountant. Macgyver received his bachelor of commerce degree from the University of Alberta in Accounting. Macgyver wrote the Uniform Evaluation in 2011 and completed his requirements in June 2012.
After receiving his CA designation Macgyver took time off to pursue his interest in finance and learning the stock market. After two and half years of learning the stock market he was ready to get back into public practice as he missed working on small owner managed companies.
Macgyver worked for three years in a medium sized local firm in Edmonton primarily dealing with small to mid size owner managed businesses. Macgyver brings knowledge and expertise on working on small owner managed businesses and helping them grow and achieve their goals.
Macgyver enjoys playing tennis and watching tennis. He is an avid football fan and loves fantasy football. He also loves his two nieces and nephew and playing with his three dogs.
Melissa Ramos joined Hill & Company as a junior accountant in early 2017.
Melissa received her bachelor of commerce degree in Accounting from the University of Alberta. She is currently pursuing her CPA designation.
When she is not busy studying, she enjoys watching movies, baking, and playing slo-pitch and basketball with friends.
Jenny joined Hill and Company in early 2018. Jenny graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Commerce in June of 2017. She is currently pursuing her CPA designation.
Born and raised in Edmonton, Jenny is a devoted supporter of the Edmonton Oilers. In addition to watching hockey, Jenny likes to go snowboarding in the winter and hiking in the summer. When she’s not in the mountains, Jenny enjoys spending time with family and friends, whether it be practicing yoga, watching movies, or trying new restaurants around town.
Lauren joined Hill & Company in October of 2017. She moved to Edmonton in September of 2017 from Regina, Saskatchewan. In Regina she attended the University of Regina to receive her Diploma of Business Administration.
Lauren grew on a farm in a small town 45 minutes East of Saskatoon, SK. She enjoys seeing her family back home as much as possible.
In her spare time she enjoys cooking, and expanding her knowledge about health and nutrition. Lauren has completed multiple half marathons and triathlons of various distances with her partner Luke and looks forward to more races together in the future.
Daniel Ong is a Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA). He received his accounting degree in Australia in 1966 and received his Certified General Accountant (CGA) designation in Canada in 1976.
As of January 1, 2015, Daniel has fully retired in order to focus on his other interests as noted below.
Daniel’s main purpose in life is to work hard and serve others, including his church, and to be honest and fair to everyone. His passion is travel and he loves to play tennis, badminton, field hockey, and go swimming. His greatest love is his wife Emily along with his daughters and his grandchild.
